Individual Public's Individual Nation

 In the new world order, We have nations with general sense of civility barring a few who still follow the aggression, strife & terrorism as pillars of their states policy and reason of their existence.  However, this general sense of civility of the nations has given the confidence to the masses across the world that their chances to die in an act of war are minimal. 

In such stable scenario, Nations are able to generate better economic opportunities for their citizens. Since all the citizens don't have access to similar similar levels of economic opportunities, It is creating multiple strata in the society based on economic well-being.  New, economic condition based, social order is setting in. Societies are under transformation, Old chains of cast based social order are giving way to golden shackles of economic well-being based order.

Every such social strata have different level of participation in political process. They have their own visualizations of concept of the nation. These strata are trying to drive concept of the nation to their desirable direction and impacting the policy making for betterment of economic opportunities available to that particular strata.

Since concept of the nation is not only about generation & consumption of economic opportunities, The nation is standing alone almost on all other fronts. Political leadership is giving direction to the nation as per their allegiance to a particular ideology. 

In this sense, when the nation does not have people participation in these matters, It bears an individual identity. This individuality may be different from the collective conscience of the nation. This situation is detrimental to both, life of the nation and the well-being of its people.

Individual identity of the nation and collective conscience of its people must coincide to inculcate vigor and sense of belonging in the citizenry. 

To break this individuality of the nation, People should be freed from the golden shackles and encouraged to increase their participation in political process. 

In context of our country, The present state of affairs in politics, Ideals of our freedom struggle, Inspirations from JP movement are not inspiring much of our youths towards political process.

The political leadership  must set higher standards of integrity & public life to attract fresh blood in the political process or we awaits a new revolution.  

Morals, Values & Compromises

It pains me when I look at degradation of morals & values in public life. This feeling might be because of my reliance on availability heuristics otherwise situation may be even worse in our private lives. 

We are least bothered to introspect/ analyse our private lives while a lot of data is available out our elected representatives & other public figures. Introspection is one of the toughest tasks for us while most of us likes to do easier tasks. 

Almost all of us know what is moral and what not. Our political, religious, economic, ideological, ethnic allegiances decide our notion of morals & values.

With these preconceived notions, we evaluate morals & values in our personal lives. Being slave of our own allegiances, We usually take stand as per situational conveniences and compromise morals & values . 

But Situations always prevail, and we will have to choose amongst wrong & lessor wrong. Our allegiances impact our thought process, Value system & morals. Every one of us has our own preconceived notions, hence exist people who do not conform to the morals & values systems accepted by majority of the society – So called Anti-social elements. 

Even our lawmakers don’t enjoy the cent percent agreement on most of the laws passed so not all in the country are going to follow these laws. There comes the role of Law enforcement agencies and judiciary. 

Coming back to our public life, Our Main political parties have policy makers, civil servants, economists, academicians, historians, even doctors and who not, having allegiance to the political ideology. People in opposition oppose the same things which they supportive of when they were in Government. We have scarcity of the sane & just voices in public life. 

It seems there is no absolute morality but still we a long-term stability in the morals & value systems to prevent a chaos in the society. With time, the old morals & value system worn out & give way to new set of morals and value system. 

The Reason for my pain may also be due to my allegiance to an older set of morals and value system. While the world is moving on towards the new set of morals, I’m still suffering.
